God of heat and light, of long days and wide open time:

I turn to this desired season in anticipation

of vacations and travel

of gardens and building projects

of less work for others and more work for myself

of freedom to play, to rest, to be.

May I not fall into temptation

to make summer another season of busyness.

May I embrace the summertime invitation to lie fallow,

to let parts of my life

and parts of myself

do nothing, produce nothing, account for nothing.

May I give those fallow places in me to You

knowing You work best

where I work not at all.

Amen.
